Main Objectives for the 8U league

Eight and Under level (age as of January 1st of the current year)
A. Introduce: Learn how to field the ball
All players will focus on how to throw the ball, field positions, proper fielding form, proper throw form and introduce sliding.
This level will be coach pitch.
Standard practice at all levels is to use a tee during practice to work on improving the bat skills of each player.
Players will learn what a forced out is and when to tag a runner.
B. There will be one game and one practice scheduled each
week. Practice nights will be in station format with all teams practicing together.
C. Rules for the 8U level:
1. 3 outs/5 run rule – scores will be kept
2. No stealing (because it is coach pitch/pitching machine)
3. 4 pitches only and then off tee
D. 8U players will participate in a tournament at the end of the season
8U Rules
1. Coach’s main responsibility is to build the softball fundamental skills as outlined in the FGFA Policy Handbook.
2. Players will report to field at 6:30 PM. Practice drills and warm ups will be done prior to the games. No new inning will start after 7:50 PM. The last inning will be completed so that both teams have an equal number of innings batted.
3. The coaches are responsible for maintaining the field prior to the start of the game. This may include dragging and/or chalking. There is a chalker in the storage shed.
4. All players must bat.
5. All players will play in each and every game.
6. 3 outs/5 run rule – scores will be kept by coaches
7. A maximum of ten players can be on the playing field at one time. These players will be in positions of catcher, pitcher, 1st, 2nd, shortstop, 3rd, and four outfielders. Players must learn and play all positions. (Each player should play the same position for two innings, then rotate)
8. Outfielders must be located on the grass.
9. No forfeits allowed; if a team is short of players, rotate players in from opposing team.
10. All batters, base runners and on deck batters will wear a batting helmet with the chin strap fastened. If a player fails to follow this rule, play will stop until they are legal.
11. All players, when they are on the offense shall remain in the dugout area unless they are on deck, batting or on a base.
12. Throwing the bat will be an automatic out. NO exceptions
13. Each batter will get 4 pitches only and then they must hit off of the tee
14. All teams will participate in the post-season tournament
